When it comes to products like silicone free shampoos different people might have different opinions but the fact of the matter is that hair can be very fragile. Many use shampoo when they wash their hair by default or out of habit because it just seems the normal or regular thing to do. However, there are many benefits of kicking shampoo out of your shower ritual and they’re related to the health and look your hair. Those that have beautiful curly hair will most likely benefit the most from renouncing shampoo since the chemicals found in shampoo have a nasty habit of destroying what makes curly hair so nice and curly.
Preparing For The No-Shampoo Period
First of all, you need to see what hair products you use can only be removed with normal shampoo. Use a sulfate one to remove all the waxes and silicones in the hair (just this once!). If you notice you have split ends, then get a hair trim. Remember that it takes between 2 and 4 weeks for the hair to get used to the shampoo. Don’t back off if you see it looks bad in the beginning, it’s a natural part of the adapting process.
- Wet your hair normally.
- Use a shampoo replacement.
If you have a curly or wavy hair which is not oily, you can use conditioner, for instance. Distribute it equally on the scalp and massage it. It will help cleanse the scalp and help fight dandruff. Then rinse it. Repeat the process every other day.
For people with straight or oily hair, you should head to home remedies that would replace the harsh shampoos. However, they can still dry your hair too much, so you can still include conditioner in your routine. Among the home remedies you can use there are: a baking soda mix (one tablespoon baking soda, plus one cup of hot or warm water in a plastic bottle); apple cider vinegar/ distilled white vinegar for rinsing (1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar plus one cup water – work it into your hair and comb it through, then rinse) or lemon juice (1:1 proportions of lemon juice and regular conditioner – work into the hair and then comb it through, plus rinse it).
Untangling Unruly Hair
Use your fingers or a comb with wide teeth. Take small sections and untangle them from the bottom up. Do so until all the hair is combed.
You Don’t Have To Give Up Conditioner
If you have a curly or wavy hair that is not oily, you can use conditioner as a shampoo alternative. Just distribute it equally on the scalp and massage it in. It will help cleanse the scalp and help fight dandruff. Then rinse it. Repeat the process every other day.
If you want to go really natural, we recommend coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it with lukewarm or cold water. Cold water will make it shinier and it will decrease frizz, so rinse your hair with as cold of a temperature as you can tolerate!
